Participants were given paper, pens, and a bottle of water. They were instructed to write letters they could not send: that is, letters to people who no longer exist (or did not ever), letters containing secrets, confessions, accusations, and so forth. The letters were then inserted into the bottles of water, and the ink and paper were let to dissolve for some time as we meandered around the city. The soupy water/paper mixtures were slowly poured out, little by little, throughout the excursion.
